“All Good Things Must Begin”
DIG SITE: A Digital Capsule Event
Created by Anna Krechevsky
Who I Am
My name is Anna Krechevsky, I am 23 years old, and I graduated in the spring of 2022 from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs NY.
I grew up in Wellesley MA, and have always had a deep love of theater and awe for the connections it creates. While at Skidmore, I studied various passions in the theater department all with overlapping themes ranging from social justice and activism to psychology. Despite my broad experience, I kept returning to the idea of connection. Then, during my Senior Year, I participated in a course called Theater and Climate Change, and for the class we participated in CCTA 2021.
When I saw that it was coming up again, I knew I wanted to try and make an event. I ended up deciding to make something digitally accessible for a wide amount of people, focusing on my skills in Visual Arts, and Administration as it was my minor at Skidmore.
Climate Change Theater Action
Climate Change Theater Action (CCTA) is a worldwide series of short plays about the climate crisis. These plays are presented biennially, along with an actionable component, to coincide with the United Nations COP Meetings (Conference of the Parties).
It was originally conceived by Elaine Ávila, Chantal Bilodeau, Roberta Levitow, and Caridad Svich, but has evolved into a U.S.-Canada collaboration between the Arts & Climate Initiative and the Centre for Sustainable Practice in the Arts.
Taking Action - It’s A Step
This project is a passion project for me, something I decided to do on my own time. My main goal with it was to spread awareness about C.C.T.A. as a whole, as well as create something meaningful in connection with the work I hope to pursue. Work that highlights the connection - and connections - that theater has made in my life.
This process has not been easy - I have had to re-evaluate and make adjustments time and again. Sometimes the scope of our ideas is not within the reach of our hands, be it because of time, resources, sustainability, or mental stability. I am proud of the result, and proud of myself for putting in the time, effort, and dedication to see it through. As you will hear about in my presentation below, motivation is hard to come by, even when we have a project we want to do. There are days where you wonder if you have it in you. There are other people who wonder if you have it in you.
But I’d like to believe that this project marks for me a first step. Maybe it’s a little shaky of a step, a little heavy on the sole - but it is a step nonetheless. We get so caught up in this idea of perfection, we sometimes never make that first move. We don’t dig.
But isn’t it true? If no one digs, no foundation can be planted, and nothing can BEGIN and grow.
